Reaching 20 million unique users throughout European network, Swiss start-up Viewster claims the title of top ad-supported Video on Demand platform for European series.

Viewster (www.viewster.com), the free platform for Video on Demand has today announced reaching the 20M mark in unique users* per month within its European network, making Viewster the leading VOD platform for European series. Headquartered in Zurich, with additional offices in London, Berlin and Kiev, the ad-supported VOD service offers its audience over 12,000 titles for free.

Viewster’s availability stretches to all European countries with a wide range of premium content, paving the way for cord cutters who have shifted away from traditional, linear TV viewing habits. Viewster’s strongest markets are in the United Kingdom and Germany: in the UK Viewster ranks 16th in video properties according to comScore (September 2013). In Germany, AGOF testifies Viewster’s growth of 60% in the last quarter, listing Viewster in the Top 50 of available online offerings (October 2013).

“Born in the heart of Europe, we are ideally placed to make sense of a very diverse marketplace of 500m consumers,” said Viewster CEO and Co-Founder Kai Henniges. “In this diverse continent, it’s already an achievement to have significant usage in all countries. The situation in the US is different, where Hulu opertates in a large single culture market.”

Henniges has been invited to present the future vision of the Viewster platform at the NOAH Conference in London last week, outlining a long-term strategy to expand its pan-European offerings of high-quality series and movies to an international audience. Viewster constantly scouts premium content for its international audiences, supporting Europe’s popular series and films, making them available in the US, throughout Europe and globally. At MIPCOM 2013, the VOD platform recently announced extensive contributions from BBC programming and other British based productions. In total, Viewster provides users with over 12,000 films and episodes (subject to local availability).

“Providing viewers with an eclectic batch of content, especially programs that would be otherwise hard to find in certain regions, is a main focus of Viewster,” says Henniges. “As we expand the reach of Viewster to other regions, we aim to add more content and popular series to tailor to our audiences’ preferences in programming.”
