Today a crossparty group around National Councillor Jacqueline Fehr is bringing a motion in parliament asking the Swiss Federal Council to clarify how policy should influence the development of the Swiss game industry. This is an important moment for the industry because Swiss game developers are receiving prominent support in Parliament for the first time.

Swiss games stand out both artistically and technically and are winning international awards. In recent months Swiss productions have received more nominations and prizes than ever before. Thanks to the commitment of institutions such as Pro Helvetia and the Swiss Game Developers Association (SGDA) Swiss games are also increasingly in the public eye in Switzerland.

Games are now becoming the focus of Swiss policy. The politicians Jacqueline Fehr (Social Democrats), Balthasar Glättli (Green Party), Ruedi Noser (FDP.The Liberals), Lukas Reimann (Swiss People's Party), Kathy Riklin (Christian Democrats), Thomas Weibel (Green Liberal GLP), Cédric Wermuth (Social Democrats) and others are tasking the Swiss National Council to draw up a report describing the current situation of the industry and to identify its artistic, technical and economic potential. In an international comparison especially with the Nordic countries and including the Swiss industry, the report should identify where and how policy should exert influence on the development of the Swiss game industry.

In a press release SGDA comments: “The SGDA welcomes the motion from the National Councillor and Executive Council candidate Jacqueline Fehr. It is asking the Federal Council for answers to the right questions at the right time. The Swiss game industry is already creating jobs, cultural assets and export goods as well as tax revenues. It should now be provided with the right framework to prosper in international competition and to give Switzerland a locational advantage.”
