No risk, no fun
Dear reader
Hocoma is a global innovation leader in technology-based physiotherapy. Until now the young entrepreneurs have been active only in the professional market and the Zurich-based firm is therefore regarded as a hidden champion. But now it is venturing into the mass market of home therapy devices.
Netguardians from Yverdon also has some unexpectedly expansionist plans. The company develops anti-fraud solutions for the financial industry and has entered into a distribution partnership with the pan-African FinTech Group, thus widening its access to local markets.
The Geneva firm High-Tech Bridge uses the internet as a distribution channel: its security service for online applications and websites combines a scanning solution with the expertise of highly skilled ethical hackers. Its unique services are now available worldwide.
Ambition and risk-taking are not gender-specific, yet most high-tech founders are male. A new initiative called Aspire wants to change that with awareness-raising activities and training opportunities for girls and young women. It intends to establish a network of high-profile mentors by the autumn.
Finally, a look into the near future: Google Start-up Day takes place on 20 May in Zurich, and 2nd Swiss Venture Day Romandie will be held at EPFL on May 22. My colleague Eugene Schön will be on site in Lausanne, and in Zurich startupticker will be represented by Stefan Kyora.
Have a great weekend.
