New Conference on digitalization in the sports business

The SPOT, the first world innovative sport event has been launched in Lausanne. The two day event in May is designed to showcase and promote innovative ideas, products, companies, and best practice whilst facilitating collaborations across diverse sectors. Registration is open.

The city of Lausanne is officially known as the 'Olympic Capital’ where the headquarters of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) are situated. Likewise, Lausanne has become a home for several organisations including Non-profit organisations such as academic institutions, associations and for-profit organisations such as corporations, Fortune 500 companies as well as startups who have a common interest in the continuously growing sports industry. According to Statista, the total revenue generated in the global sports market has grown from US $46 billion 2005 to US $90.90 billion in2017.

Therefore the City of Lausanne, Canton Vaud, the Swiss government and the International Olympic Committee established in 2015 ThinkSport, the first network that brings together the variety of sports-related expertise and excellence in Lausanne. And ThinkSport has now launched a new initiative called «The SPOT...outside the box», a two day conference designed to stimulate progress in sport by bringing together original ideas and the latest innovations.

The event will take place from 15 to 16 May 2018 at the Swiss Tech Convention Centre in Lausanne with a core focus on digitisation in the sports industry. The following themes

  • Connected sport: New technology, data analytics, connected venues
  • New sport: the latest sporting trends, global expansion of e-sports, e-sports convergence
  • Performance and Health: Human enhancement & nutrition, latest equipment, materials & design, sporting innovations and knowledge transfer
  • Media and Marketing: Artificial intelligence, augmented reality, the Cloud, OTT & sponsors, digital security

Companies and innovators will have the chance to showcase their products, innovative ideas, and best practice at a designated market place and demo zone. Moreover, there are several networking opportunities designed facilitate cross-sector partnerships and projects. Registration is open, and early bird rates will be available for registrations received before 15 February, 2018.

International Startup Contest
An International Startup contest for new entrepreneurs in the Sports industry will also be organised under the Framework of «The SPOT». Startups and emerging companies are invited to submit their business ideas. Shortlisted start-ups will be have the opportunity to pitch their ideas in front of an audience of potential investors, during the final day of the event.
