The OGG Start-up Awards have been designed to recognise forward-thinking businesses that have found new ways of addressing today’s current and pressing food sustainability challenges. First winner is Mein Küchenchef, a convenience food start-up from Berne striving to keep food waste to an absolute minimum.

Our Common Food is an innovation lab for ideas tackling sustainability challenges in the food system. As 2014/2015 programme came to an end, the Our Common Food team and its partners invited all interested friends and supporters to the OCF final event, providing an opportunity for representatives from across the food sustainability and entrepreneurship sectors to come together and discuss the innovations that will be shaping tomorrow's food systems. The OCF entrepreneurs presented their start-ups in short pitches and competed to win one of two OGG Start-up Awards.

OGG Start-up Awards
Building on their strong history of support for projects in the agricultural sector, the Ökonomische und Gemeinnützige Gesellschaft des Kantons Bern (OGG) was quick to recognise the valuable connections between the OCF programme’s mission and their ongoing activities connecting urban and rural communities. The OGG Start-up Awards have been specifically designed to recognise forward-thinking businesses that have found new ways of addressing today’s current and pressing food sustainability challenges.

The two awards were presented during the OCF final event:

Mein Küchenchef won the OGG Start-up Award 2015 (8'000 CHF), selected by an expert jury (Michelle Grant WFSC, Raoul Stöckle Äss-Bar, Samuel Bühlmann Niederried Fleisch, Urs Nufer and Franz Hofer OGG), who considered the start-ups’ potential against a series of pre-agreed judging criteria.

Mein Küchenchef is a convenience food company with a difference: it offers healthy, well-balanced meals, while simultaneously striving to keep food waste to an absolute minimum. Mein Küchenchef uses high quality, sustainable and locally sourced produce to produce pre-prepared meals which can be ordered online and delivered directly to the customer.

Essento won the Audience Award (2'000 CHF). The company was chosen by attendees on the evening of the event. Essento is working towards introducing insect-based food delicacies to the Swiss food market.
