The new company, Adept Neuro, will develop a new generation of deep brain surgical electrodes for epilepsy treatment. DIXI Holding will finance the joint venture and gradually become the sole shareholder.

Aleva Neurotherapeutics, an EPFL spin-off, has developed a unique technology for the manufacturing of electrodes allowing for the precise stimulation of the deep brain. Aleva’s electrodes are based on MEMS technology, which permits great flexibility of design and miniaturization, thus reducing the costs of the manufacturing process.

Now, Aleva and Dixi Medical announced the co-founding of the company Adept, which is dedicated to developing a new generation of Stereo-Electro-Encephalo-Graphie (SEEG) electrodes to facilitate localization and thermocoagulation of epileptogenic zones. Adept Neuro will have exclusive intellectual property rights of Aleva Neurotherapeutics developed in the fields of epilepsy. DIXI Medical will ensure the exclusive production and distribution of the Adept Neuro’s products, while DIXI Holding will finance the joint venture and gradually become the sole shareholder. Adept Neuro will be based at the EPFL Innovation Park in Lausanne.

«Our technology has demonstrated its clinical efficacy in the most demanding applications of neurosurgery. With the long and pioneering experience of DIXI in Epilepsy, we are sure to transform the lives of patients for the better», says André Mercanzini, CEO of Aleva Neurotherapeutics.

DIXI Medical is one of the leading manufacturers of intracerebral electrodes for SEEG. The current conventional mode of production limits the company’s ability to meet the demand of a rapidly growing market and prohibits the necessary evolution in therapeutic modalities that only the nanotech dimension can facilitate. «We aim to become a major integrated player for the diagnostic and surgical treatment of epilepsy», says Frédéric Koehn, COO of DIXI Holding.
