Voltron: Cubes of Olkarion

Today, independent game studio Gbanga has launched ‘Voltron: Cubes of Olkarion’ on the gaming platform Steam. The game is based on a show created by Dreamworks. Gbanga received access to the Universal-owned IP by winning last year’s Universal GameDev Challenge.

Zurich-based studio, Gbanga, won the Universal GameDev Challenge – a collaboration between Universal Games and Unity Technologies, sponsored by Intel and Microsoft – against nearly 550 competitors and took home a $150,000 prize money as well as a year-long consulting contract with Universal Games and Digital Platforms for its game ‘Voltron: Cubes of Olkarion’.

«Universal is a powerful partner with worldwide reach, which is worth gold for an independent game studio like Gbanga. In return we are able to support Universal with our knowledge regarding game design, sophisticated rules and robust mechanics», says Matthias Sala, CEO and founder of Gbanga.

Today, the game has hit the gaming platform Steam as an ‘Early Access’. ‘Voltron: Cubes of Olkarion’ is a one-on-one, real-time strategy game with fighting and puzzler game elements. It is based on an episode of season two of the Netflix original series DreamWorks ‘Voltron: Legendary Defender’. «We will constantly develop and update Voltron according to the feedback of the gamer community», explains Sala.
