The Swiss start-up Anteis has been bought by Merz Pharma last year. The acquisition gave the founders of Anteis the opportunity to spin off the Healthcare activity and to found Aptissen SA.

In less than 10 years, Anteis has become a strong global player in the area of injectable medical devices based on biopolymer transformation. The company were active in the fields of ophthalmology, orthopaedics and aesthetics. In the aesthetics field Anteis has developed several highly innovative and highly differentiated products, e.g. wrinkle-filling gels, resorbable implants and cutaneous rehydration gels. In November 2013 Merz Pharma acquired the company to strengthen its innovative power. Since 2005, Merz Pharmaceuticals distributes a range of dermal fillers developed by Anteis under the Belotero brand name.

The acquisition of Anteis by Merz Pharma gave the founders of Anteis the opportunity to spin off the Healthcare activity and to found Aptissen SA, specialized in the research & development, manufacturing and commercialization of biopolymer-based medical devices. The new company is today active in the fields of Ophthalmology through surgical solutions for cataract and glaucoma, and of Orthopaedics, through innovative treatments for osteoarthritis. Aptissen SA stands for Advanced Polymer for TISSue ENgineering, which clearly gives a hint about the company’s skills.
