Anastasia Ailamaki
Raw Labs celebrates two achievements in a short time. The company's CEO, Anastasia Ailamaki, is the winner of the 2019 ACM Sigmod Innovation Award and the startup rejoices over the entry into the startup program of Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE).

Founded in 2015 as a spin-off of EPFL, Raw Labs enables companies to rapidly build and deploy data-driven applications and microservices without having to invest time and money in new and expensive data lakes and data warehouses. The company, therefore, makes it possible to create enhanced sets of data in real-time, regardless of data format and complexity, and use these data sets to build data-driven applications without having to store the data in a database.

Seamless integration to data science tools, allows the users to further enhance the data sets. The enhanced data sets in 'RAW' can then be used to create new data-driven applications such as predicting diabetes in patients or can be made available as a service for consumption by a company’s existing enterprise solutions. By accessing data at the source, RAW eliminates data duplication and the need for heavy ETL processes before the data can be used, thus providing unprecedented time to value, lost cost and minimal IT overhead. RAW can be deployed on-premise, in the cloud and on the Edge.

ACM Sigmod Innovation Award goes to Raw Lab's CEO
A team of seven people are employed by Raw Labs under the lead of Anastasia Ailamaki, the CEO and Co-Founder. Ailamaki boasts a 20-year-long career on data-intensive systems and applications, with technological inventions on data layouts for emerging micro-architectures, data management on solid-state storage, and computational databases for data-intensive medical and other scientific applications. Her algorithms are in popular database products by Oracle, IBM, and Microsoft. In addition to being the CEO of Raw Labs, Ailamaki is the head of the EPFL School of Computer and Communication Sciences (IC) Data-Intensive Applications and Systems Laboratory (DIAS).

Adding to her awards, Ailamaki has recently won the 2019 ACM SIGMOD Edgar F. Codd innovations award, which is bestowed onto innovative and highly significant contributions of enduring value to the development, understanding, or use of database systems and databases. The award committee nominated Ailamake for her “pioneering work on the architecture of database systems, its interaction with computer architecture, and scientific data management”.

Selected for the HPE startup program
Thanks to their innovativeness, Raw Labs was selected to join the startup program of Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) in Switzerland. “This is a unique opportunity for RAW Labs to benefit from HPE’s market reach and expertise in cloud computing, IoT, AI and Edge computing”, says Lars Farnstrom, CCO of RAW Labs. “By optimizing our software platform for HPE infrastructure and services, we will be able to offer a unique combination of time to value and performance.”

“I am very pleased to have RAW Labs join our start-up program. We believe RAW Labs has some very innovative technology which combined with HPE infrastructure and services will help enterprises accelerate their digital transformation,” says Monica Gille, Director HPE Suisse Romande.
